Microsoft is rolling out the biggest game changer of all time for coders
This one might force me to reconsider if I get a Copilot account.
This is a quick non-technical one on a tech-related topic. I just saw this article on a new feature Microsoft is rolling out. Folks, this might be a game changer and completely alter the way software is done.
Copilot itself is absolute theft (catch up on my previous post) and I refused to ever consider subscribing to the service.
But now… I don’t know.
I’ve been writing code for over 30 years, since my late teens. Even as a business owner, I’d still jump in on projects. I’ve written countless applications, systems, and stuff I’ve long forgotten.
When I say this is a game changer beyond anything that’s happened in software, take my word for it.
At my age, my eyes are going, brain is slowing down, can’t type as fluid, and half my coding time is looking for my glasses, which I always find on the top of my head. This means when I write code (I own a small software development firm) the things involved in writing code are a pain in the ass.
The actual writing code is no big deal. When you have the flow in your head, you just bang it out. However, tasks like copying a file from an external directory to your workspace, or renaming a file or moving it somewhere, or fetching a file containing data, or pulling some sample data from the DB for testing, or whatever, those are a pain in the ass because they require vision, disrupting flow, and a brain that can task-switch and return to where it left off, which is very difficult for old people like me.
If I could just speak it and have those tasks magically happen, that would be absolute heaven for a coder like myself, and efficiency and productivity would go through the roof.
There’s lawsuits happening against Microsoft (in the link to my previous post), but regardless, this is so major that I don’t think you can put the genie back in the bottle. It may be a situation where you have to get the service because you’ll be left behind in productivity by the competition. I don’t know yet.
This is still in an experimental phase, but it’s coming, and Microsoft made the biggest play of all time. Damn you Microsoft. Damn you.
Good article...
Damn, it won't belong before coders will be a sort of history, like those who perfected the wheel, the designers/engineers aren't really necessary when you have an entire library of information.
Sure, there will always be coders, and the best will be well paid, but there won't be nearly that many left with your knowledge.
Sorry DC, but that really does look like the future. Hey Pilot, I need code for (####) Ok, her you go...
